Nysha Speed, BSW, is a graduate student at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte working towards a Masters degree in Social Work. The major population aspired to influence are those that have been or are currently incarcerated. There is experience in counseling youth that have been in contact with the judicial system as well as been apart of a diversion program to help youth not come in contact with the judicial system. Most recently, an administration of group therapy to those who have committed a domestic violence offense and those who’ve committed a sexual offense was done in the most recent field placement. Upon, graduating with a bachelors in social work, she was awarded the Top Scholars Award in her social work cohort. As of today she is working in the medical field to further explore the integrated behavioral approach to social work in order to establish a greater understanding of the connection between medical illness and mental illness.
