Melanie is passionate about increasing access to high quality culturally appropriate healthcare for traditionally marginalized populations. At the Smith Family Wellness Center at Project 658, she works with immigrants, refugees, and communities of color. As a social worker, Melanie intends to focus on advocating for interventions and health care policies that recognize the unique environmental, social, economic, and historic factors impacting these groups’ well-being and access to high quality care. Melanie previously served overseas as a diplomat with the United States Department of State. She has also worked domestically as a community development director. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French from Dillard University and a Master of International Affairs (MIA) from Columbia University. She is a married mother of four young children.
